Coined by Dr. Elaine Ingham, the Soil Food Web describes the connections between photosynthesis happening above ground and the microorganisms below ground. When aerobic microorganisms are present in the soil biology, soil health is replenished.
Healthy soil, containing sufficient aerobic microorganisms allows water to properly infiltrate; makes nutrients available to plants; and can combat pests and disease.
When soil becomes a living, breathing organism it holds water in floods and releases it in droughts; protects against erosions; captures and stores carbon to name a few.
